Gold Steadies Amidst Limited Economic Data and Dollar Fluctuations
Gold maintained its position within familiar territory on Monday, as a sparse macroeconomic calendar and subdued demand for the US Dollar characterized the trading session. The XAU/USD pair hovered around $2,175, slightly lower from its intraday peak of $2,180.52. Investors found themselves in a period of reassessment following recent decisions from major central banks over the past fortnight, endeavoring to decipher forthcoming market dynamics.
The prevailing narrative suggests a trajectory of strength for the US Dollar, buoyed by ongoing indications of a robust economy despite concerns regarding inflation and historically low interest rates.
While the week commenced with a modest decline in the USD, likely attributable to profit-taking and the absence of significant macroeconomic updates, the currency’s dip occurred amidst a backdrop of souring risk sentiment emanating from Asian developments. Heightened concerns arose following a terrorist incident in Russia, prompting vigilance among leading economies. Additionally, the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) set the Yuan mid-point against the US Dollar notably higher than previous levels, exerting downward pressure on the Greenback.
This week
Attention in the coming days will center on the United States’ March Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, recognized as the Federal Reserve’s preferred gauge of inflation. Projections indicate the core PCE Price Index to register at 2.8% year-on-year, aligning with February’s figures.
Technical analysis
From a technical standpoint, Gold’s structural support at $2,156 remained intact, with a notable bullish upswing observed last week originating from this level. However, speculation persists regarding the legitimacy of the significant bullish spike, with some viewing it as potentially manipulative in nature.
Looking ahead, market participants anticipate a potential retest of the underlying blue support level in the week ahead, with its breach signaling the onset of a corrective movement. A daily candle close below this threshold would confirm a breach, with a subsequent bearish trajectory anticipated towards the $2,090 support level.
